Singing & Songwriting with Melissa McKinney – Students will learn songs that have made a positive impact on the world while exploring their voice and the basics of breathing, support, pitch, and rhythm. They will also study the structure of the songs, the chord progressions, the rhythm, the lyrics, etc and use that knowledge as a foundation to write an original song. Songs will be recorded in the One Mic Studio.

Tuesdays from 5pm-6pm at LEAF Global Experience (19 Eagle St, Asheville, NC, 28801)

Mayani is a Maasai boy from longido Arusha. He went to boarding school at 6 years old and lost his Maasai language and tradition. Since joining the LEAF program, he has learned to sing Maasai songs, practiced the ‘jump’ tradition and wear Maasai shukas (traditional clothing). Mayani is extremely happy and is currently teaching other youth the culture.
