Old School to New School Moves

An All-Ages Hip Hop Dance class lead by LEAF  Schools & Streets Master Teaching Artist Otto (Aquaboogy) Vazquez. Get up and get your body moving every Saturday morning, with this great family-friendly, fun class!  Classes will be posted at 9am every Saturday in April!

Video will go live at 9am day of class, and will remain accessible for viewing at any point afterward.

Week 1 – King Tut Style

Learn the dance of right angles and boxes. This is a comprehensive, follow-along dance tutorial for upper body and arm movements to develop the style of “King Tut.” Presented by Leaf Global Arts. Week 2 – Intro to Animated Styles

A comprehensive, follow along dance tutorial to develop the animated styles of Slo Mo, Strobe and the first lesson in Robot, among the most popular of dance effects. Presented by Leaf Global Arts. Week 3 – Introduction to Locking

This week we present a super fun and challenging introduction to Locking, one of the funkiest dances on the planet made famous on the show Soul Train. Learn the basics of the dance and put them together in a short but challenging routine. Then put the funk hits on and try it on your own! This lesson is dedicated to Don (Campbellock) Campbell who passed away a week before this lesson was created. Don was the creator of Locking and a mentor to LEAF Master Teaching Artist Otto Vazquez. Time to get Funky!

Mayani is a Maasai boy from longido Arusha. He went to boarding school at 6 years old and lost his Maasai language and tradition. Since joining the LEAF program, he has learned to sing Maasai songs, practiced the ‘jump’ tradition and wear Maasai shukas (traditional clothing). Mayani is extremely happy and is currently teaching other youth the culture.
